In the event of your death
In addition to your retirement pension, you also build up both a partner and orphan’s pension. When you die, your partner is entitled to a partner pension and your children will receive an orphan’s pension. The collective name for these is partner pension.
What is meant by partner:
- Your spouse;
- The person with whom you have a registered partnership;
- In addition to that the person with whom you are living together and running a joint household with;
Which amount will my partner receive?
The partner pension is a maximum of 70% of the retirement pension that you receive upon retirement. In the event of death after retirement, your partner will also receive 70% of the accrued retirement pension.
When will partner pension be paid out?
Starting date will be the first day of the month after you pass away. For the payment of partner pension, it is irrelevant whether you die before or after retirement age. Also your partner having an income, or not, is of no consequence.
ANW benefit (General Surviving Relatives Act, ANW)
Your death may entitle your partner to an Anw survivor’s benefit, paid for by the government, the so-called ANW benefit, subject to specific terms and conditions. You will find more information on the Sociale Verzekeringsbank website Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB).
After your death, your children will receive an orphan’s pension.
In addition to your retirement pension, you also build up an orphan’s pension. When you die, your children, may be entitled to an orphan’s pension. This is the case until your children reach the age of 18. For children who are studying (i.e. undergoing more than 20 hours of schooling or vocational training per week) the orphan’s pension until the age of 27 at the latest. Your children will automatically receive an application form.
Who are categorised as children?
- Your own and legally adopted children;
- Stepchildren and foster children raised and supported by you.
Het wezenpensioen bedraagt 20% van het partnerpensioen als u tot uw pensionering bij Pensioenfonds Detailhandel pensioen zou opbouwen. Elk kind ontvangt wezenpensioen. Als er meer dan vijf kinderen zijn die recht hebben op wezenpensioen, wordt het totaal van vijf wezenpensioenen gelijkelijk over alle kinderen verdeeld. Als beide ouders overleden zijn, wordt het wezenpensioen verdubbeld. Ieder kind krijgt dan 40% van het partnerpensioen.
Until when does a child receive an orphan’s pension?
If you die, your children will receive an orphan’s pension up to the age of 18. For children who are studying (i.e. undergoing more than 20 hours of schooling or vocational training per week), the orphan’s pension will continue until they reach the age of 27 years. Upon receiving the death certificate, Pensioenfonds Detailhandel will contact your surviving dependants.
